Hashtags on G+ Get a Big Upgrade OMG DoWeAllHaveToUseG+Now

Everyone likes to poke fun at the usefulness of Facebook's hashtag feature and of hashtags in general. (Did anyone see that Jimmy Fallon/Justin Timberlake bit about hashtags?)

But Google+ is taking hashtags to a new level on its platform. Announced today by Zaheed Sabur on -- where else -- G+:

1.) When you search on a hashtag in Google now, you will see relevant G+ posts on the right side of your screen (only public or posts from your circles)
2.) You can click in further and see all the relevant posts related from there
3.) And here's the one I find most interesting: "You'll also see links to search for these hashtags on other social sites." (It is Google after all. Who better to search all other platforms? #GoogleSteppinUpItsGame)

I tested it out on Google search, and the G+ results appeared at the right for some of my searches and not on others, but that could have been b/c sometimes I was logged in to G+ and sometimes not. And in the main results, I saw lots of Instagram, G+ and Twitter results, but no Facebook. I will do some more testing.

Try it out and let me know what you think! It clearly is designed to encourage the use of G+.

And now, the Fallon/Timberlake bit. #QuestloveRules
