Are you on SnapChat?

  • Angelina Marie Reply

SnapChat is a video messaging application where users can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to a controlled list of recipients. It initially was very popular among 13 to 35 year olds, but there is an increasing number of users 35 and older. Over the last year in the U.S., Snapchat added 25-to-34-year-old users (103%) and older-than-35 users (84%) faster than 18-to-24-year-old users (56%), according to measurement firm Comscore. Snapchat's own data now peg 12% of its nearly 50 million daily users in the U.S. as 35 to 54.

Do you have SnapChat? What is your experience with it? How do you think this application could be helpful for businesses?

I do have SnapChat but I don't use it much at all. I would have never expected SnapChat to have that many users over 35!

I have Snapchat but don't use it very often. However, I have noticed A LOT of large corporations are enlisting the help of Snapchat to connect with consumers. I think it holds a lot of promise as far as promoting sales and coupons. Providing a quick snapshot of a coupon code or a sale going on for retailers is a great way to connect with potential and current customers.

Yeah I use it, but it's not my favorite app by any means.

I use Snapchat pretty much daily, and it's easy to get super sucked in by the stories that show celebrations or events around the world. It can be super useful on a marketing level, but only for some verticals.

I agree, Katy! That's pretty much all I use it for actually.

Yeah I'm with you, Andrea. Though I also rarely use it, so when I do its only to see what friends have shared.

I purposely avoid connecting with celebrities or companies. I find it really annoying when SnapChat sends me holiday snaps or something, so I can't imagine I would like following a celeb on there.

That's what instagram is for, at least for me.

I use Snapchat on a daily basis, but I don't follow any companies, celebrities, etc. That being said, I could see this app being effective for businesses if they target the right audience and are creative in the way that they do that.
