Good afternoon and welcome to our marketing SEO services video. I'm Chad Hill and I have Adam Stetzer here with me.
Hey, good afternoon, Chad. Yesterday, we were talking about how to sell marketing seo services the right way. Today we want to go upstream a little bit in the sales and talk more on the seo marketing side, how to do seo marketing services for those people that are really trying to grow their business, increase their lead flow, make more money.
A great question, and I've got a punch list here of a few things that I wanted to talk about. I think the first one is not to guarantee SEO. Of course, that's something that Google in their guidelines for Webmaster Guidelines on how to select marketing seo services tells you, but more than that, ultimately we're not in control of exactly who Google ranks and where they rank them. So don't guarantee SEO. It's just a bad way to start the project.
And that's counter-intuitive to everything else in seo marketing you'd hear for any other industry, where a guarantee is the ultimate way to sell and market things. Here we say, you just can't do it. And that's just the way it is in this industry.
Absolutely. I think the second thing fits right in there, which is that SEO marketing is not a silver bullet. I think a lot of times people want to come in and say that all you need to do is one thing in marketing and it's just going to dramatically change your sales and your company. But marketing seo services is a part of a marketing plan and a marketing strategy, so don't sell it as bullet because it isn't. But it's a very important part of your marketing strategy.
Right. So you want to convince people that seo marketing needs to be in your strategy. Maybe they've don't understand it or need to be educated, but you don't want to over-hype it. So I guess you've got to find the balance. Because we all know the return on investment from seo marketing services is great, so it's probably easy to over-hype it by accident. So I guess you're saying, come at it with a balanced message.
Yeah. And that's really my third point, is that realize where seo marketing services do fit into the marketing strategy, which is that it's a great way of-- it does have perhaps the best long-term return on investment. But like we talked about yesterday, if you need leads tomorrow, SEO is not the right thing to position. So if you look at it, and you position it as if you put the investment in today, and that investment pays off the long run, it's a great way, a great selling point and marketing point to SEO.
Yeah. That's one of the reasons I personally like marketing SEO services is I've seen firsthand just how well it works. You do it right, and you stick with it, and you make the right investment, and you have the right time horizon. When you get that top of page one placement on a great keyword, the phone just starts to ring and it's very, very valuable.
So on the flip side, though, you have to wait a long time. You have to make that investment. So it's just this tricky thing to try to market and sell seo services marketing that there is a really good return on investment. A lot of people have studied it. It's well documented. But you've got to take the long view, or people get impatient and bail out.
Yeah. And the last two points really are more about really how you package the solution that you're selling. So there's a tendency-- some people like to go in and do a one time consulting engagement. And that often works well with selling a marketing strategy, or maybe helping with a branding engagement.
But seo marketing is very much about tactical implementation. So our recommendation is the way you begin marketing seo is you market it as a service that you get in and get your hands dirty pretty fast, optimizing the website, picking keywords, starting to think about a linking strategy, and then executing those links, not just thinking about it, but actually executing those links. That's a really important thing to do when you're marketing seo services.
Yeah. And content marketing< is really a slog in some ways. It's a lot of work. You've got to create engaging content. You've got to be syndicating it. You've got to be promoting it. You've got to be Tweeting it, using social media, everywhere else you can get this out to to build back links. So I agree with you. You've got to be marketing seo services for what it really is, which is a long time in the trenches day after day, shoveling the dirt that has this return on investment if you do that long enough and consistently enough.
Right. And the cool thing about what you're saying, Adam, and it's really the final point is that although there's the two audiences here,-- we're always thinking about the audience that your prospect and your customer, so the content marketing services you're doing is great for them. Because it adds, it shows that your website's lived in. It shows that there's buzz about your service and product across the web. So that's really important.
But the other thing is, of course, that that same content and those same tactics you're using to generate some buzz across the web also are what the search engines are finding and then bringing people back to your website through SEO. So it's sort of a two for one deal. It's great. It's one of the few programs that you get both of those benefits. And it's really important, I think, in the way you're marketing SEO services.

SEO is one of the best ways to grow a business, especially in the 21st century. Cost and return on investment just cannot be matched by other forms of promotion and marketing. Those are are trying to sell them cannot understand the importance of SEO when it comes to making a website more visible.

It takes a while to build up a solid SEO foundation for a site to stand on, and I'll definitely agree with you guys that it takes a lot of time and "digging in the trenches" to finally see good ROI. You also need to keep a diversified marketing strategy and not put all your eggs in the "Google organic basket." Like you mentioned; SEO is not a silver bullet, but a piece to the overall marketing strategy.

I see way too many businesses waste way too much money from getting impatient and quitting SEO. It's a big decision and you have to be willing to commit. A billboard won't fill up your retail store overnight and SEO won't put you on page 1 overnight either.

Selling SEO services requires that it be sold correctly. As a long term play that will yield results over the long haul. If they need leads in the short term they need to turn to PPC.

Yes Bill, results are a function of the consumers, as well. That's why a good strategy involves solid research to have a good understanding of what consumers are searching for (and buying) AND ongoing tracking and analysis to know what is/isn't working and how to change course if needed. Consumers can be fickle. But your best bet is to know the trends and behaviors as much as you can.
