Leading Website Reseller Business [VIDEO]
Building a successful website reseller business can be difficult without the right team behind you! When choosing your outsourced website developer, look for aesthetics, but also, perhaps even more important, look for an agency that has systems in place that ensure their reliability. When choosing your outsourced website design company, ask them, "What kind of project management tracking do you use? What is your strategy for requirements, documentation, and scope control?" Communication and project management, when it comes to managing a highly effective website reseller business, is key. Watch the video to learn more.
Hello and welcome to our website reseller business video. I'm Chad Hill, and I have Adam Stetzer with me today.
Good afternoon, Chad. I'm excited to be talking about our website reseller business. There's a lot of activity on our forum and a lot of resellers coming to us for advice. So I thought we'd start out with a great opener question, just why should people join the HubShout website reseller business program?
Yeah, that's a great question, a good place to start. I think, first of all, all businesses having a website is truly the hub that they have on the web. There are lots of places that they can put content across the web, social media outposts, and forums and whatnot. But ultimately, your storefront on the web is your website.
So you want a website that looks great. And that's something that website reseller businesses can really help you build out is a great looking website, with all of the lead forms and calls to action that a company's going to need to actually generate phone calls and web submissions or lead submissions off the web.
Right, and we don't have to spend a lot of time on that, because you can browse our website, see our portfolio, and see what our designers are capable of. So you're right. You have to check the box.
The product has to look good. The website needs to be attractive. But then what? What else should they be looking for?
Yeah, well, then you really want to be able to have a back office that you can believe in. So is the team that you're picking going to be able to reliably build those websites that you're out selling for your website reseller business? You don't want to be selling and have a team that's failing behind you. That's the worst feeling in the world.
So do they have the processes for gathering requirements? Do they have a team behind you that can actually get the work done on time and on budget? That's a really important part of picking your website reseller business partner.
In fact, it might actually be a little more important than just how beautiful the websites look. I know that may be a controversial statement to make, but I would probably be willing to give a little bit, not a lot, but a little bit on the aesthetic if I could outsource to a team that I knew was going to always consistently deliver on time and give you the tools to really scale up. I'm not saying you should go with the team that makes ugly websites, but I think at some point you may have to look to scalability as you're trying to grow your revenues as a website reseller business.
Exactly, and then I think the final thing on the point you're making, Adam, about really the revenue in the business side of this is having a website reseller business partner that allows you to do as little or as much of the work as you would like. So if you have more time maybe early in your business and you want to be working on writing content and really defining the requirements, that you can do that and then have a lower price point, compared to maybe later in your website reseller business when you're getting a little bit more volume and you need someone to be writing the content and handling more of creation of the images and the content for building that out. So you have the ability with the HubShout website reseller business model to be able to either do as little or as much as you would like in order to hit that price point that you're looking for.
I think that flexibility is important to people considering outsourcing website design. I think if you're on the end of the spectrum where you want to outsource more of it, then communication also becomes very important, Chad. And so you need to really interview any prospective outsourcing team and make sure you feel comfortable with how that communication is going to flow. And really grill them on their tools.
What kind of project management tracking do you use? What is your strategy for requirements, documentation, and scope control? Particularly if you want to push all the work over, that's really critical to getting these projects done on time and making money in the website business.

Websites need to have the perfect blend of style and substance. If someone does not have enough of either, it could cause a potential customer to leave before they find something they like or need.
Those that are interested in going into this kind of business will also enjoy the chance to work with a business partner that will give them the freedom to do as much or as little as they want. Some people may have a second job that requires their time, while others may have a wide open schedule.

Requirements, documentation and scope control - these three things are key for every we development project. Outsourcing to a team that can help you handle these aspects of the web dev business will be a huge boost to smaller web dev shops.

Flexibility and communication are huge parts of the process, so I'm glad you touched on that. I have worked with a lot of clients with super tight budgets who have gone with a cheap solution for website development out of necessity. Later, when they want to redesign, add elements or freshen up the site, they are left high and dry and often end up re-inventing the wheel with a new design company (costing them more in the long run). Pay attention to the level of support you will receive before you jump into a project.
